When last I submitted a reunion bio -- for our 50th, time flies -- I mentioned that as a former MPHS swimmer (we were the Seahorses) I was doing some competitive open water swimming. Still am swimming (laps) -- and strongly advise for us septuagenarians. After a career in government service and the press, am now retired but I prefer not to use the 'R' word. Instead, after teaching international affairs classes for 15 years at George Washington University (and other schools like Hamilton College that would have me), I prefer to say I am on "indefinite sabbatical". And I am doing a lot of reading now that I have some time on my hands (when I'm not helping out/sometimes avoiding) 4 grandkids under 5. Highly recommend Carl Sandburg's monumental six volume biography of Abraham Lincoln (took me several months but worth every 3000 pages of it). Or for a shorter read, really recommend Doris Kearns Goodwin's latest "An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s". We all lived through these times. Her account is therefore highly relevant and readable for us. Will end with this. They say with age comes wisdom. If that's really the case (debatable), I'd like to suggest that we all better start dispensing our wisdom! Sail on, fellow '64 Mustangs (my photo will show I'm following my own advice)

I now spend January, February, and March in Key West. If you ever get down there doing that time, look me up. Spend much of the spring and fall at my place in North Myrtle Beach. Get my mail and spend the summers in Chapel Hill. Retirement has been better than I ever thought it would be. Sorry to be missing the 60 year reunion, but have to babysit my grandkids-or maybe should say looking forward to- while my daughter and her husband are at a wedding.

Attended Lees-McRae College (along with several MPHS graduates) and graduated with a medical secretarial degree and worked in that field for almost 47 years. I loved my jobs through the years and learned so much. Married Jim McAnulty in 1971. We have a daughter and a son and two precious grandchildren (9 & 6). We moved from Charlotte in December of 1981 and lived in Columbia, SC for about 5 years and have been in Greenville, SC since 1986. My husband and both of our children are graduates of the University of SC in Columbia so, when I say Carolina, I’m referring to the Gamecocks. This has caused some confusion at times when I’m in Charlotte and I’m talking about Carolina meaning USC and the other person is talking about Carolina meaning UNC! I retired in 2013 and have traveled some, taken lots of trips to visit our grandchildren who live near Charleston, SC and our daughter who lives near Dallas , TX, and many trips to Charlotte to visit my best friend and my brother. I served as the Facilitator of the WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) group at Taylors First Baptist Church for 4 years and sing in the Legacy choir (senior adult choir). We sing at hospitals, nursing homes, the local VA clinic, other churches, etc. For the last several years we have done a mini flash mob at the Haywood Mall around Christmas where we suddenly burst into song in the Food Court. We have about 60-70 members. We have a great time. Looking forward to our reunion in October! I had a great time at the 50th reunion!

Following graduation, I enrolled at North Carolina State University studying chemical engineering. I had several summer jobs: one in Charlotte with Fiber industries, partly owned by Celanese, and another, following my junior year, with Dupont in Kinston North Carolina. In Kinston I met Nola Jenning, who was the neighbor of two of my classmates who also had summer jobs at Dupont. I subsequently asked her out and this developed into a relationship and I married Nola after her graduation from UNC. The United States Patent and Trademark Office came to interview at NC State and I scheduled an interview with them. With the draft breathing down my neck, I was told by the recruiter that the patent office could guarantee me a critical skills deferment. With that I responded “where do I sign up?”. On top of that, they would pay for some of my tuition at a law school. So I went to work at the United States Patent and Trademark office in June 1968 following graduation and worked there for four years while also attending law school at Georgetown, which was enough time to be waived into the "patent bar”. Then, I went to work for a patent law firm in Charlotte, Bell Seltzer Park and Gibson. I had an enjoyable career there and particularly enjoyed meeting all of the creative people who were coming to our firm to apply for patents. I had a number of trips to Munich for appearances at the European Patent Office in connection with my patent law work, and Nola always managed to tag along so that we were able to make numerous side trips exploring European cities. I retired from the practice of law in 2000. We lived for seven years at Isle of Palms outside of Charleston South Carolina and still have many friends there. We returned to Charlotte where we now have our home. We also have a getaway cottage in Blowing Rock, North Carolina where we enjoy the cooler summer weather and I frustrate myself by playing golf. We have a son, John, living in Charlotte. He and his wife Jamie have two daughters, Campbell, currently a junior at Smith College outside of Boston and Evy who will graduate this year from Charlotte Latin School and is busy awaiting application decisions from several colleges.

It has been a great 30 years since i came to the last reunion. Our two adult children are doing well in the world, and we are fortunate to have 4 great grandchildren, ages 10,6,5 and 4. I am still deeply in love with my wife and partner,Sharon, after 56 years. It has been a wonderful run. We started and managed Performance Bicycle for about 30 years, and for the past 15 years have been developing spec houses in Aspen Colorado. We are currently finishing a small condo project in Moab,Utah. We have traveled a lot, to about 85 countries and the Antarctica. We also RV quite a lot. I believe one of the keys to happiness is no boredom, and try to fulfill that.

Thomas Charles Sehorn 704-301-4027 tsehorn@carolina.rr.com News Flash: Tom Sehorn graduates Myers Park HS Class of 1964 - Rick Inderfuth ABC News Moscow. First, I need to thank my “sister” Martha McNeal. I would have never gone to school if it were not for Martha. Also, thanks to Carol Lee for letting me copy her American history notes. On the other side of that, I was late to school several times. Before school, Rob Dancy and I would go fishing in the Myers Park CC ponds. The caught fish had to be taken home and cleaned after school. Priorities. I attended Lees McRae Jr College with Randy Sills, where Randy played basketball. I was on the tennis team only because I had a racket. I was the fifth man on a four-man team. Frank Cathy would have said, “Yep, that sounds about right.” LOL I served from January 1968 to December 1970 with the U.S. Army Europe Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. I was assigned to the Office of the Adjutant General, Military Personnel Actions Division, in the Congressional Correspondence Section as a Specialist 5th Class. While in Europe, I learned to snow ski in Austria. In Nice, I water skied in the Mediterranean. Oh, and I did drink some beer. I am proud of my service, but I know who the real soldiers are: those who served in Vietnam. A few of our friends served: Cordy Fraser, Clay Kimball, Jim Estes, and others. I salute you and thank you. The Lord has Jim now, and I rejoice in Jim’s victory in Christ Jesus. In early 1970, Bob Worley directed me to First Union Bank, where he was working on the 2nd shift processing checks. Within a year, I was the 2nd shift supervisor with 45 women. Great Bob, thanks. In 1975, I married Kay, who was a schoolteacher. Kay retired with 12 years in SC, 34 years in NC, and 3 years as an Adjunct Professor at Winthrop. We have two daughters, Shelley and Ashley. Shelley is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and is an Assistant Director in charge of all OTs at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, including other hospitals UNC manages. She also teaches an OT class for UNC OT students. Shelley is married to Bryan, and they have a daughter, Millie. Ashley worked for an architectural and interior design firm before becoming a full-time mother to her son, Thomas. One of Ashley’s local projects was redesigning the interior of Ruth’s Chris on S. Tryon Street. She is married to Matt, who works with Wells Fargo. In 1975, I entered the life insurance business as an agent/technical supervisor and later became an internal wholesaler working for several insurance companies. I retired around age 70. I think it was 1976 when Clay Kimball, Tom Hawthorne, and I ran in the second Charlotte Marathon. You know who won that race. My time was 3:57. I ran two races that day, my first and last. Around 1989, Kay signed Shelley up for basketball with the South Park Youth Association and me as a coach. Two years later, I was the commissioner of the league, which I ran for the next 17 years. Some of you may have had your children play with SPYA. To drop a few well-known parents’ names: David Thompson, Bobby Jones, and Jay Bilas. They all kept a low profile in the Bob Uecker seats. In 2002, I attended a Western NC Lutheran Via de Cristo (Way of Christ) weekend. This Catholic Cursillo movement began in Spain in the late 1940s and worked through Texas to NC in 1975. It is a four-day event of talks and discussions that include discovering who am I, who is Jesus, his salvation and forgiveness, and the Christian community in the world. In 2013, I was honored to be a weekend leader. In 2007, I began volunteering with Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc. This ministry began in 1975 in Ohio and is currently in 38 states and 9 countries. Kairos is modeled after the Cursillo movement and serves in maximum-security state prisons. There are 20+ men’s and women’s prisons in NC. I have served in three prisons: 2 weekends at Marion CI, 3 at Alexander CI, and 19 at Foothills CI. I was the leader of the 3rd weekend at Foothills CI. Weekends have 45 team members and 42 inmates, whom we call participants. Most are gang members, Bloods, Crips, MS13, and many others. But do not let what they did define who they are. They are Children of God, Brothers and Sisters of Jesus Christ, and our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We go inside the walls with our motto: Listen Listen Love Love Matthew 25:36, “I was in prison and you came to visit me.” I have wordsmithed a Dr. Seuss quote: You may be but one person in the world, but you may be the world to one person. And that person is always Jesus Christ. Myers Park HS Class of 1964: God loves you, and so do I. Tom Sehorn, Brother in Christ

After Tom’s death on 1983 I decided to stay there and continue to work. 6 years later I married Ed Cooper a Citadel grad and we lived in Beaufort, Charlotte and Charleston. After graduating from Davidson in 1968, I spent three years in the Army, most of that in South Korea; with trips to Japan, it was an amazing experience. My first non-military job was as an auditor for Continental Bank and Trust in Chicago- once the nation's 7th largest bank. I was hired away by Cullinane Corporation, whose software I used at the Bank. The next seven years saw travel to all 50 states and every continent (save Antarctica), as a technical representative. Next was a 10-year stint as a Methodology consultant for a New York firm. It was during that time that I moved to Dallas with my first partner. I worked with two friends to create a small software package (Data Junction) for large-scale data migration, and then spent the 90's as a consultant with first Deloitte and then E&Y. I returned to what was now Data Junction Corporation in 2000 until it was sold to Pervasive Software in 2004, after which, traveling having become the hassle it is today, I retired. I still live in Dallas with my second partner of 30+ years. We spend our time traveling (who knew cruising was such a great way to see the world?) and, as do all of you, with friends. Our newest adventure is a house in Cumbaya, Ecuador, located in the Tumbaco Valley just outside (and 2000 feet lower than) Quito (why didn't someone tell me to take Spanish, rather than French?). BA - University of NC at Charlotte MaEd - Wake Forest University Blessed with three children (all in their 50's). Blessed with three grandchildren (ages 14-31). After 30+ years joyfully teaching English in public high schools and in the NC Community College System, I am having an equally enjoyable retirement. After retiring in 2007, I spent 10 years as a Snappy Tapper, dancing for residents of retirement communities and at various community events. For several years I competed in archery (compound bows) as part of the Senior Games in NC and at the national level, and I've traveled throughout much of the country visiting children and grandchildren, whose locations change as they advance in their careers. After my 37-year marriage ended, I discovered that love really is beautiful the Second Time Around. Roy Faw and I have enjoyed life together for 23 years and counting. We look forward to our trips to Myrtle Beach and fishing on Apache Pier there. Currently he is helping me with my flower gardens, and I am helping him restore a 1963 Ford Falcon. Right now, we are wiring the garage for 220 volts for the newly installed car lift! Yes, I am doing electrical wiring! Even though we continue to remain active in the daytime, we are in our PJs by eight o'clock at night! I will look forward to seeing photos from the two nights of reunion celebration! I have looked at the "SEE WHO'S COMING" list, and I remember nearly everyone from our halcyon days at Myers Park High School. God bless us everyone.

MPHS Class of 1964 Bio – Logan Vincent Pratt, Jr. – 60-year update July 18, 2024 Graduated with Civil Engineering degree from NCSU in 1969 and from UNC-CH with MBA in 1971. Then active duty with USARMY completing Engineer Officer Basic training at Fort Belvoir in January 1972. The army did not have enough jobs for all the new 2nd Lts in my class and I was discharged along with others back to the reserves. Worked 43 years in the domestic and international construction and engineering field. Traveled to many countries meeting my wife in Tabuk Saudi Arabia in 1976, living in Mexico City in 1980 and El Salvador in 1989. However, most of my years were spent in Charlotte and all three of my children are graduates of MPHS. Michael is an electrical engineer recently married and relocated to Charlotte after many years in Denver. He and his wife are expecting our fourth grandchild in August of this year. Marirose is an attorney with the EPA Region 4 office in Atlanta. She works remotely and is relocating her family including our first three grandchildren to Charlotte this summer. Elizabeth is a Berkley graduate in City and Regional Planning. After a number of years on the west coast she returned to Charlotte several years ago, is married and working for a local non-profit. My wife and I are elated to soon have all three children and their families living in Charlotte. In 2013 I retired from full time employment and have enjoyed a decade of freedom to travel and enjoy family, new activities and new friendships. I began hiking and backpacking when my son was in Scouting. I continued hiking sections of the Appalachian trail each year until completing the trail at Mount Katahdin, Maine in 2014. That same year I traveled to Spain for the Camino de Santiago walking 550 miles in 35 days from St Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago, Spain and then on to Cabo de Fisterra on the Atlantic Ocean. Since then, I have taken up Beekeeping and returned to Europe each year except for 2020 for an additional Camino or other long walk in Spain, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Hungary, Austria, Croatia and this year four weeks along the Via Francigena in Italy. Most years my travel rotation also includes a Habitat for Humanity Global Village house building trip to El Salvador or Guatemala. If anyone is interested in a Camino or other long walk just let me know. There is an active group of Camino enthusiasts in Charlotte who gather most months for food, fellowship and walks on the greenways or nearby other nearby trails. July 18, 2024 – Charlotte, NC

As for my legal career, it was rather diverse, starting with a clerkship to US District Judge Franklin Dupree in Raleigh, followed by 5 years in Charlotte as an assistant DA, 4 year back in Chapel Hill where I accepted an associate professorship in public law and government (Institute of Government), and, finally, returning to Charlotte, private law practice (insurance defense). Meanwhile there were some travel opportunities: a year-long solo trip in 1974-75 from Tokyo to Athens, another round-the-world self-guided tour with my lovely wife Shelley Pendleton (married 1986) upon retirement in 1996, and several other shorter trips to Asia in the mix. Other retirement activities have included hiking in Grand Canyon, amateur radio, volunteer work with Charlotte Sister Cities, and learning to speak Chinese (after a fashion). But enough about me. We had a great 50 year reunion; let's have another great one in October.

Graduated from ECU right on time, took the summer off for the second fantastic summer in Maine and entered the Army on September 15, 1964. Graduated from Basic Training, Advanced Infantry, and then OCS. Pinned gold bars on both shoulders and crossed rifles on my lapels as I was leaving for Germany. The bars had turned to silver just as I was leaving Germany and en route to Vietnam where I served as an infantry platoon leader. By the time I left I was wearing a Combat Infantry Badge just above my the left chest pocket. Believe it or not I was happier than when I walked across the stage - I think it was the one in Ovens Auditorium. The date was July 27, 1971. Two years slid by and I was living with Milo Hoffman in Chapel Hill. He kept telling me I could be admitted to the MBA program and just to prove I couldn't, I applied and proved Milo was once again right and I was wrong. Thankfully, two years later I did graduate. In January, 1979, I moved to Greensboro and married for the first time in August. We had a baby 9 months and 10 days later. Sandy already had two children who were good kids and had nothing to do with our separation. Our marriage didn't; work out and we divorced. Katie was always special to me and still is. Why? Keep on reading. I married again and my wife already had two kids and had another baby for us, David, Jr.. We stayed married for almost ten years. I decided marriage wasn't a good idea for me. After Katie got married and moved to Louisiana and David stayed at UNC-W all the time, I finally was able to meet a long time wish - to move west. I was almost 60. I got a job at the Grand Canyon which was not a good job but I stayed there 17 months and then moved to Aspen. I had always wanted to be a ski bum. I lived there four and a half years. It was a truly unusual city. I returned to Greensboro when I left Aspen and moved to Baton Rouge at Katie's request last August and live in a senior housing residence (I'm still mobile and not crazy - just insane} . I'm out of room. Send me an email if you'd like to know more about Army life or Aspen. David

My wife Cathy and I live in the Matthews area and have 2 kids, 2 grandchildren and a big Yellow Lab.
After graduation and 4 years in the Air Force I came back to Charlotte and haven’t found a reason to leave. I went to CPCC and started working for Duke Energy(Power) and have been there 43 years now. Every day on my commute to downtown and I pass the houses of Jenny Fallis, Beverly Love, Diane Hord, Ray and Linda Baker and Susan Finch(RIP). Memories? Oh yes!
Randy Sills and I have kept in touch over the years. We occasionally get together for BBQ and conversation of current or past events and how Charlotte has changed. Our conversation usually starts with “Who died”? It goes with the age.
Note: In 2008, I lost my running mate, Johnny Bristow. Johnny and I met in the summer when we were 13 and spent the next 50 years enjoying life. In 2002, we went to Spain together and remarked that we would have made Miss Akers proud with our knowledge of Spanish. Johnny would have loved to be here with you.

Lots of volunteer work, a caring church, good friends, good books, 3 dogs, and what used to be a lovely yard until the deer ate everything-- all in all a good life. My latest is doing section hiking on the Appalachian Trail with 3 friends from my weekly AT hiking club. We completed 229 miles in PA this summer. (Saxby, you were my inspiration)
Hope the name tags are in BIG PRINT and that we can still recognize one another!
We always welcome anyone wanting to visit Lynchburg. It is rather like Charlotte used to be before exploding in size except we have hills and the Blue Ridge is ever-present.

After MPHS I went to UNCG as several others, graduated and spent one year in Richmond, VA, before moving to Hot-lanta which was a great move for me. I got my MEd there at Georgia State, taught school, and started traveling, ending up spending a year in Germany which was great fun. After that year my now husband came over and we drove for 6 weeks through France, Portugal , and Spain, deciding that if we could make it together for that trip we might as well get married. Well, 40 years later we’re still happily married and still traveling as much as we can. My husband Dick retired this May and I’m one real estate closing away from retiring myself. We’re excited as these changes make us free to travel the world which we intend to do. We’ve had fun living in several cities in the SE through the years, Atlanta, Winston Salem, Miami, New Orleans and now Raleigh. I’ve taught school, designed children’s clothing, going to the markets in NYC, enjoyed selling home decorating projects, and then real estate for 20 years. We have been blessed with three great kids, two of whom live within a few minutes of us in Raleigh (our daughter is actually married to our son’s best friend!) and the third in Cullowhee, NC. This MPHS reunion has been great for me to reconnect with friends that I haven’t seen since graduation. Many, many thanks to the organizers…it’s a gift to us all.

After I graduated from Duke, I worked in Boston as a secretary for a year. With that experience, I managed to obtain employment in Switzerland, where I spent two great years. Upon my return to the US, I moved to Orlando, Florida. I said I would never teach, BUT… I nevertheless went to Rollins College for an MAT. I started teaching in Brevard County, FL in 1972 and taught French and Spanish for 30 years. I actually liked it! Meanwhile I met my first husband, a fellow teacher. We were married around 11 years and had two daughters. Ginger was brilliant and lovely. She finished at Hollins College in 2 ½ yrs. (20 yrs. old) and was accepted at Columbia U. grad school when her heart stopped and she died. I miss her. Heidi (34) is now working on what will be hopefully (and finally) a PhD. in biological anthropology at the U. of Arkansas. She is a joy to me, if a bit slow in finishing her schooling. She spends her summers in Amarna, Egypt supervising a team of anthropologists who are studying ancient bones. In 1990 I married Joel. He was at the Kennedy Space Center putting together the Galileo spacecraft for JPL. He then got a job with Boeing doing shuttle payload hoisting and handling. We are still on our honeymoon. :-) He was an amateur sportscar racer for 30 years. We are loving retirement. Joel volunteers at a military plane museum. He also judges science fairs and other student events. We both work out at the Y. I swim in our pool, walk on the beach, drive a Meals on Wheels route, and belong to 3 book clubs. We both enjoy travelling. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.

Graduated from Duke in '68. Three years in the Army, including one in Vietnam. Married my college sweetheart, Karen, right after returning from overseas and was fortunate to spend my remaining army year in Monterey, CA. After that, I knew where I wanted to settle. Back to the East Coast for MBA at Wharton, then joined Clorox in marketing at their HQ in San Francisco Bay Area, where we remain to this day. Involved in introducing a number of consumer products including Soft Scrub, Tilex and KC Masterpiece, but the major event in my career was being the founding president of Brita USA and introducing the Brita Water Filter to American consumers. It was a very difficult first few years, but eventually quite a success, with Brita in 1 of every 7 US households (if yours was one of those, thank you very much). Karen and I retired the same day in 2001, she after a career in computer programming and me after a dozen years running Brita. Retirement has been an unexpected joy, full of travel, hiking, reading, family time and community service. At this point my passions are skiing, minority education and progressive politics and causes. I was a delegate for John Kerry at the 2004 convention in Boston and had the great opportunity to be at the 2012 convention and see just what a fine city Charlotte grew up to be. We have two sons, both Duke alums. One is married with a young daughter, a lot of fun for us after raising two boys.

To mark the occasion, and as a former MPHS swimmer, I decided to take part in the annual 'Washington's Crossing' swim across the Potomac River -- about a mile and a half distance.
Good news: I finished first in my age group. But, truth be told, there were only 3 in my age group. So there is an advantage to getting older -- the competition is thinning out.
Happy 50th reunion, fellow Mustangs. Let's shoot for a century.
Best to all,

After graduating from Queens College, I worked as their Registrar until our first child was born. I then spent a number of years very active in the volunteer sector until returning to work as the Youth Director at First Presbyterian Church, where I have been a member since birth. I now work at another non-profit, the Community Culinary School of Charlotte and started a catering service for the program, Encore Catering, whose mission is to give jobs to our students and graduates as well as generate funds to help support the school. I love what I do and likely you will see some of our staff at our Reunion Luncheon on October 25. I have loved catching up with classmates while working on the reunion and hope to see most of you in October.
UPDATE: Since our 50th reunion, Brian and I have both retired and are enjoying each day as a vacation. We’ve been married (second marriage for both of us) for thirty years and have a son and daughter (my stepchildren) and four grandchildren—two at the College of William & Mary and two in high school.
The day I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1968, I was commissioned as a naval officer. I served aboard the U.S.S San Marcos (LSD-25), and then served a year with the Naval Advisory Group in Vietnam, where I led a group providing operational and logistical support to the Navy’s patrol boat riverine operations. I left the Navy as a Lieutenant after returning from Vietnam in 1971.
I was the director of Program Integrity at the North Carolina Medical Peer Review Foundation in Raleigh, where I established the North Carolina’s first Medicaid fraud and abuse investigation unit. I left the Foundation in 1979 and joined Burroughs Wellcome, a British pharmaceutical company, at Research Triangle Park, NC. There I survived two megamergers that eventually formed GlaxoSmithKline. I retired from GSK in 2007—after 28 years in pharmaceutical R&D—as the global vice president of R&D quality and regulatory compliance. During that time, Mildred, who also worked for GSK, and I had an expatriate assignment in England, living and working there for several years.
Somewhere in the back of my consciousness, Miss Baker must have been calling, because, since retiring, I’ve been living the second-act writing life on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and have published two books. Libido’s Twist, a medical suspense novel set in southwest England, was published in 2010 and won a Writer’s Digest award in genre fiction. My second book, The Drone Enigma is a military thriller and was published in December 2013. I’m currently working the third. ( http://ron-mcmanus.com )

After graduation from Myers Park, I headed to Meredith College where I majored in Home Economics. During my sophomore year, I met my husband, Richard, and we married two weeks after graduation – that’ll be 46 years together this June. After his return from Viet Nam, we moved to the country, about an hour east of Charlotte. So I’m now a “country girl” who lives in the boondocks, gardens and preserves fruits and vegetables, rides a 4-wheeler around our 160 acres regularly seeing deer, wild turkeys and other wildlife – a far cry from the Country Club!
While in college, I had said I did not want to teach school. So guess how I spent 34 years of my life! I taught 2nd grade and junior high. Then, while working on my master’s degree at UNCC, I got interested in computers which lead me to becoming a district-wide computer teacher at the time when computers were just being introduced into the schools. I became the Computer and Testing Coordinator for Anson County Schools and earned my EdS from Winthrop College. In 1996, I became the Director of Technology, Media, and Student Information for Richmond County Schools. In these roles, I worked with the state department in writing and subsequently revising the state technology curriculum and required computer test. In 2005 I supplemented my regular job by becoming an Adjunct Professor for Lesley University (Cambridge, MA) and teaching in their educational technology master’s program.
Richard and I have been blessed with two children. Beth teaches high school (Foods and Pro Start Career and Technical Education Programs), is married to a retired Marine, and has two children: Heather, a sophomore at Meredith, and Richard, a high school junior. Bill is principal at Hudson Middle School, is married to a 2nd grade teacher, and has a 9 year old (Gabe). We are so proud that he has just completed his PhD in Educational Administration. We love to travel – have a RV and travel all around the US and Canada, often taking the grandchildren to learn about the wonderful, fantastic country.
I’ve kept up with some of my Myers Park buddies and last year reunited with my best friends through the marvels of the Internet. Then, we met for a day, just like we had never been apart. Now, I’m looking forward to seeing so many others from my childhood and youth at our reunion in October.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone in October…. Fifty years…amazing! Here goes…After 2 years at Converse, I transferred to UNC-CH and graduated with a Math Ed. Major. Surprisingly, I loved teaching high school math so I did that in several counties for a total of about ten years. Somewhere during that time, I also coached the boys’ and the girls’ tennis teams. I left teaching for about 12 years to work in NC State Government, monitoring federal grants. In 1986, I returned to university to get my Masters in Ed Administration. During my last 17 years of working, I was a math/science curriculum director for several school systems.
In 1975 I married Charlie Vaughan of Woodland NC, an attorney. We have two sons: eldest son Charles is married and living in Wellington, New Zealand, an attorney working for the NZ government assisting NZ businesses in global markets and younger son Matt is married with one child and living in Raleigh, working as a financial estate planner.
Over the years, Charlie and I have been involved with historic restoration, a 1790 house in Woodland NC and a 1820 house near Littleton NC (near Lake Gaston)where we currently live with our two standard poodles who have the run of the farm.
I have had many opportunities to travel many places overseas, but often with my mother returning to the country of my birth, South Africa, where she visited with her 11 siblings and I visited with my 52 first cousins and their families.
I retired about 3 years ago and love my unstructured days… My newest hobby is painting portraits and other subjects.

It will be wonderful to see my classmates in October for the first time in many years. It has been inspiring to read your bios. Here’s mine. Since graduating from Myers Park, I attended Emory University for two years, graduated from the University of North Carolina in ‘68, worked for IBM in Washington, DC for a couple of years before returning to UNC to get a masters degree. Married Joe Pyne from Maine, had a son, Sam Pyne, and moved around the US while Joe was in the Navy before landing in New Orleans in ‘75 and then Houston in ‘82. Married my second husband, David Smyth, an oilman and rancher, in 2006 and have happily melded our families. Between us, we have three sons and four granddaughters. Currently, I serve on the board of several conservation-related foundations. My favorite has been the Dixon Water Foundation, which owns and operates cattle ranches in Texas and Colorado and manages them sustainably, while raising organic, grass-fed beef and funding an annual grant program. If you buy grass-fed beef from Whole Foods, it may come from one of our ranches. Looking forward to seeing you in October.

After graduating from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, I joined Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant in New York City. In 1968 I married the love of my life, Herb Zimmerman, and we'll celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary next April. After two more wonderful years in NYC we moved to Lancaster, PA (my husband's hometown) to start our family. Our son and his beautiful wife live in Roswell, GA and our beautiful daughter and her hubby live right there in the Queen City. Each "branch" has given us two precious grandchildren, a girl (12 years old) and a boy (10) in Charlotte, and another girl (8) and boy (5) in Roswell (plus our only granddog). They keep us very active and, hopefully, young.
After living in Lancaster for 42 years, in 2013 we moved to my other love, the lowcountry of South Carolina and the Belfair Plantation in Bluffton, where we enjoy meeting many new folks and playing a lot of golf on its two challenging courses. I'm sure our classmates never thought of me as being even remotely athletic, but I carry a 15 handicap and its become another love of mine. I used to play a pretty decent game of tennis, too, So there!
My husband and I have been very fortunate to have travelled extensively in the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, as well as bits of South America. We've visited in 30+ countries and will have just returned from two weeks in Germany for my 50th Reunion in October.
I'm really looking forward to seeing all y'all after ALL these many years.

50 years! Wow! After one year at Randolph-Macon, two years at SMU, and a wedding, I finally graduated from the University of Texas . . . Hook 'em! My ex-husband was drafted in 1969 and we ended up living in Germany for three years after OCS - somehow he managed to escape Viet Nam! We returned to Austin in 1972 and raised two beautiful children who have since blessed us with five incredible grandchildren - 4 boys and an adorable one-year old girl. I've been single since 1995 and have loved every minute of it! I have worked for the last 20 years as the only employee of an attorney who was Special Counsel to LBJ in the White House - remember that guy who became President on an airplane when we were Seniors? Can you believe I work for his attorney? Anyway, it has been a real adventure and I've had the opportunity to meet people I never dreamed I would come into contact with! My true passion is travel and there aren't very many places in the world I haven't been . . . but I'm not through yet! Can't wait to see everybody in Charlotte!

I have 2 sons from my first marriage, Hunter and Joseph Shull, and now have 4 grandsons, Grainger 9, Reston 6, Walker 5, and Webb 3.
I married my husband Bill in 1998 and our combined family consists of 5 children and 9 grandchildren. All 4 of mine and 1 of Bill's live in Charlotte. This keeps us busy and very fulfilled.
I have been selling residential real estate since 1981, Bill joined me 10 years ago and our daughter-in-law, Beth Shull, joined our team a few years later. The Shull-Huffman team is with CottinghamChalkHayes Realtors.
Bill and I bought a house next door to where I grew up on Portland Avenue a few years ago, so I am back where I started. I was once the youngest person on the street and now Bill and I are the oldest.
I am very thankful for all the blessings I have had through the years and one of those is the friendships of my childhood. I really look forward to our 50th!

In 1964, I departed Charlotte for Wofford College where I spent three unproductive years until I heard John Wayne calling my name. I enlisted in the Army and volunteered Airborne/Infantry. The 90 day delayed enlistment worked for me so I could be the head life guard at Charlotte Country Club and have at least one more good fling dating Cheryl Brittain. At Basic Training I met very close friend Clay Kimball and he explained why I needed to be a Green Beret and go to Vietnam; so I did.
Oh yeah, I managed to marry Cheryl six months prior to my Vietnam Tour and we survived very luckily. We have now been married 45 years and have two children. Brittain, our daughter, has two children, William 10 and Caroline 8. She has just married Charlie Pinckney. Graeme, our son is a banker; he married Staci Hartsook. They have two children, Ava 7 and Cord 3.
After Vietnam I returned to Wofford and made up for lost time and direction. C&S Bank of Augusta Georgia was my first big boy job; they transferred me to Atlanta. After several other career adventures I ended up a Commercial Mortgage Banker in Tampa, FL. Boy was that lucky. Sold my company to GMAC Commercial Mortgage in 2001, and was miserable with them until 2006. Currently, Cheryl and I live happily in Longboat Key where we keep the boat in the back yard and walk to a great beach for beautiful sunsets. I like to swim and boat, Cheryl is the ‘enigizer bunny’ volunteer who also likes to knit. We play Bridge together and do lots of grand-parenting. I am still working as a one man ‘RE Gladiator’. We are looking forward to catching up with old friends!

We lived in several places before we settled in Scottsdale AZ and had our family of 3 sons and 2 daughters, now 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandaughters.
Since Jr High the writings of C.S. lewis have impacted my thinking therefore, when I had an opportunity to become involved with the C.S. Lewis Foundation it was a natural. I started off as a volunteer and become a conference coordinator untimely serving as the resident Warden of Lewis's home in Oxford U.K. This was particularly timely experience for me as my long term marriage was dissolved.
After my work with the Foundation ended in 2010 I again settled in Scottsdale.
Hope to attend the reunion and reacquaint with many from our class.

Moved many times after first marriage (to Sam Scott from East Meck.) and remarried to Tim Kostelecky in 1984. Two children from first marriage, Lara Scott and Brad Scott, living in Lexington, KY. Grandparents to two beautiful girls, Victoria Scott and Amira Chouk. Have resided in God's country, Bradenton, since 1996. After working in banking in various locations for 12 years, finally decided what I wanted to be when I grew up and went back to school. Attended St. Petersburg College and received degree in interior design. Went to work for a builder (La Maison) here in Bradenton and worked with homeowners for 12 years, until the housing market tanked. Guess you could say I'm retired, but I still dabble in design when the opportunity arises.
