Charlotte, North Carolina — Class of 1964
In Charlotte’s shade of oak and pine,
Where Myers Park still stands,
We came of age in hopeful times
With books and shaking hands.
Teenagers then, with restless hearts,
And futures undefined,
We learned our lessons, tested wings,
And left our youth behind.
We were Mustangs—before the name
Meant chrome and polished steel,
Before that car first hit the road
And made the world wheels squeal.
March of ’64, it roared to life,
That Mustang, sleek and fast—
Just like us, built bold for change,
With no thought of the past.
Pep rallies, bells, and classroom days,
The laughter in the halls,
Friday nights and growing dreams
That dared us not to stall.
From Charlotte streets to distant towns,
Our journeys spread afar,
Yet something of that Mustang pride
Still tells us who we are.
The years have added character,
Not rust, but strength and style,
Engines tuned by love and loss,
And many a driven mile.
Now eighty waits just down the road,
But make no grave mistake—
A Mustang doesn’t fade with time,
It learns what curves to take.
So here’s to Myers Park, ’64,
To friendships deep and true
To Charlotte roots and open roads
Still calling me and you.
Once Mustangs, always Mustangs—
That truth still holds its ground:
A class, a year, a shared beginning
Where lifelong bonds were found
